Temple Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 at Fordham
3.24.13 | Women's Tennis
BRONX, N.Y. – In a match that came down to the final singles bout, the Temple women's tennis team was on the unfortunate end of a 4-3 loss at Fordham on Sunday, March 24.
The Rams grabbed the doubles point with wins at the first and third flights. The No. 3 Fordham pair won 8-3, before Temple's Alicia Doms and Jordan Batey captured an 8-3 win at No. 2. It came down to the first flight, and Fordham came out on top 8-3 for the early 1-0 lead.
The Owls started singles play strongly, winning the first three decisions to take a 3-1 lead. Cristina Grimaldi got the scoring started with a win by default at No. 3 when Bella Genkina retired leading 1-0 in the first set. Rebecca Breland followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Angelika Dabu at No. 4, and Batey earned a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Sarah Ali at the second flight.
That was all the scoring TU would do, however, as the host team responded with three-straight wins to claim the match. All three took three sets in the evenly matched competition.
Temple (5-10) heads to George Washington for a noon match against the Colonials on Saturday, March 30.
