PHILADELPHIA—Head coach Matt Rhule and his wife Julie invite the Temple University community to join them on team TUFF [Temple University Football Family] for the 2013 Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure on Sunday, May 12.
“Matt and I are so excited to start this campus-wide initiative,” Julie Rhule said. “We hope that we have a huge commitment from the University community. More than 60 of the Owl players have already signed up to participate in this event. We all have mothers, sisters, relatives, and friends who have had breast cancer. We want to raise money and awareness for this treatable disease.”
Students, faculty, staff, and all members of the Temple family need to register through the Komen website at: http://race.komenphiladelphia.org.
Registration fee is $35 per person which goes directly to Komen Philadelphia. Make sure to join “TUFF” under teams. Team Registration deadline is April 28.
Racers may participate in a 5K Run, 5K Walk, or 1-mile Fun Walk.
On race day, the action begins at 6:30 a.m. on campus at Edberg-Olson Hall with a light breakfast, yoga stretching, and FREE bus transportation to/from center city. Special team t-shirts will be issued at EO the morning of the race.
TUFF captains are Julie Rhule, Matt Rhule, Evan Regas, and Cathy Bongiovi.
Team TUFF will accept additional fundraising contributions made through the Komen website or at the Cherry &?White Game on April 20.

Temple football has received recognition through the years for its community service efforts. The Owls, who log more than 1,000 hours of community service each spring, have helped with the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure for the last six years. In 2011, the Philadelphia Affiliate honored the Temple team members as its 2011 Most Valuable Players.
Additionally, the Owls claimed back-to-back T.E.A.M. Awards, an acronym standing for Temple's Exceptional Acts for Mankind, for their exceptional community service efforts in 2009 and 2010. The team also received the 2009 Robert P. Levy Award for Outstanding Community Service by the Philadelphia Sports Congress.
