4.8.13 | Women's Lacrosse

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Temple lacrosse senior Meghan Clothier has been named the Atlantic 10's Defender of the Week for the week of April 1-7. Clothier, the Owls' starting goalkeeper, was awarded along with Katie Ferris of Massachusetts (Player of the Week) and Lib Lowery of Duquesne (Rookie of the Week).

Clothier recorded wins in goal in both games for Temple last week, helping the Owls remain perfect in Atlantic 10 play at 3-0. She played the first half of an 18-3 win vs. St. Bonaventure on April 5, allowing just two goals while making five saves on 11 shots faced.

Playing the complete game in a 16-9 win at Duquesne on April 7, Clothier allowed nine goals but also made nine saves on 24 shots faced. She had a saves percentage of .560 for the week.

An attacker from Carthage, N.Y., Ferris netted 11 points on six goals and five assists this weekend to lead UMass to Atlantic 10 wins over Richmond (12-11, 2OT) and George Washington (10-9). In the win over Richmond, she had three goals and two assists. Her goal with 63 seconds left in regulation brought UMass within a goal, 11-10. That goal allowed UMass to force overtime and eventually win in double overtime. On Sunday, Ferris scored three goals, added three assists and posted two groundballs and two caused turnovers. She scored back-to-back goals after GW had tied the game at eight just over 10 minutes into the second half with her final goal of the game serving as the game-winner. Her 11 point weekend moved her into a tie as UMass' all-time career points leader (226) with Jackie Lyons.

Lowry tallied six points in a split week for Duquesne, scoring a goal and an assists in the win over Saint Joseph's, followed by two goals and two assists in a loss to Temple. Every shot the Wayne, Pa., native took last week went in, as she recorded three goals on three shots. She also recorded a ground ball and a caused turnover versus the Owls.
