Phil Steele Honors Two Owls with Preseason All-Conference Honors

CLEVELAND – Phil Steele has honored two Temple football players as members of his 2013 preseason All-American Athletic Conference teams.
Sophomore LB Tyler Matakevich (Stratford, Conn.) was named to the first-team All-Conference, while junior DB Anthony Robey (Norristown, Pa.) was a fourth-team selection.
A Freshman All-America honoree in 2012, Matakevich was the 2012 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and the ECAC Defensive Rookie of the Year. He played in all 11 games, starting eight games at Mike linebacker. One of just four true freshmen to earn a starting role for the Owls, Matakevich became the first freshman in school history to record 100 tackles. He led the Temple defense in his inaugural campaign with 101 tackles, including 67 solo stops, three TFL, three break-ups, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble.
A two-year starter at corner, Robey was named to the 2013 Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the 2012 BIG EAST All-Academic Team. Last fall he was one of just seven Owls to start every game. Robey finished the season with 41 tackles and a team-best six break-ups. He finished 16th in pass break-ups (0.55) and 49th in tackles (3.7) among all conference players.
Under the guidance of first-year head coach Matt Rhule, this season's squad returns 46 lettermen, including 15 starters.
Temple opens the 2013 season at Notre Dame on August 31. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. on NBC.
