Stephany Parcell Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Lacrosse Team
6.12.13 | Women's Lacrosse
PHILADELPHIA – Senior Stephany Parcell is one of 12 student-athletes selected to the 2013 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Lacrosse Team. The honor caps a season which saw Parcell named to the all-region second team, the Atlantic 10 First Team and the A-10 All-Academic Team.
Drexel senior Kelli Joran was named the 2013 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Lacrosse Performer of the Year. All selections are based on voting by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia area. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area, an athlete must be in his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better.
Joran earned Performer of the Year honors after appearing on last year's Academic All-Area team. The Downingtown, Pa., native finished her career ranked 10th on Drexel's all-time leaderboard with 101 career goals, becoming the 11th player in Drexel history to reach 100 career goals. She also finished 12th all-time with 122 career points. She is a two-time first-team All-CAA selection and was an IWLCA All-Region Second Team pick for the second straight year. This season, Joran led Drexel with 37 goals and 29 ground balls and was second on the squad with 46 points and 53 draw controls to help lead the Dragons to their third straight CAA Championship appearance.
This year's list of honorees includes La Salle's Melanie Sarcinello, who is a three-time Academic All-Area selection. Along with Joran and Parcell, Sarcinello is joined by teammate Caitlyn Brostrand, Katie Cook (Immaculata), Meghan Fallon (Arcadia), Meg Markham (Penn), Meghan McDevitt (Saint Joseph's), Shannon O'Brien (Rowan), Annalise Penikis (Swarthmore), Grace Stockbauer (Haverford) and Melissa Styer (Philadelphia).
