Athlon Names Matakevich & Robey to Preseason All-Conference Team

PHILADELPHIA – Temple sophomore LB Tyler Matakevich (Stratford, Conn.) and junior DB Anthony Robey (Norristown, Pa.) have been named to Athlon's 2013 preseason American Athletic All-Conference teams.
Matakevich was a second-team honoree, while Robey earned third-team recognition on defense.
As a true freshman in 2012, Matakevich was named to the FWAA Freshman All-America Team. The BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and a second-team selection as well as the ECAC Defensive Rookie of the Year, Matakevich played in all 11 games, starting eight games last fall. One of just four true freshmen to earn a starting role for the Owls, Matakevich became the first freshman in school history to record 100 tackles. He led the Temple defense in his inaugural campaign with 101 tackles, including 67 solo stops, three TFL, three break-ups, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. Matakevich was named to the 2013 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Linebacker Watch List. He is a preseason first-team All-Conference selection by Phil Steele.
A two-year starter at corner, Robey was named to the 2013 Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the 2012 BIG EAST All-Academic Team. Last fall he was one of just seven Owls to start every game. Robey finished the season with 41 tackles and a team-best six break-ups. He finished 16th in pass break-ups (0.55) and 49th in tackles (3.7) among all conference players. He is a preseason fourth-team All-Conference selection by Phil Steele.
Under first-year head coach Matt Rhule, Temple opens the 2013 season at Notre Dame on August 31. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
