PHILADELPHIA – Temple Women's Soccer has announced its 2013 schedule, including the agenda for its inaugural season in the new American Athletic Conference. After hosting Wagner (Aug. 14) and visiting Towson (Aug. 17) for exhibition contests, the Owls will embark on a four-game road swing and officially kick off the season at NJIT on Friday, Aug. 23. Temple will welcome Marshall for its home opener at the Ambler Sports Complex on Sept. 6 and will make its debut in American Athletic Conference play Sept. 26 when it hosts Houston.
Out of the 18 games on the schedule, the Owls will play 10 teams that had winning records in 2012, including Loyola Maryland (Sept. 1), Central Florida (Oct. 6) and Rutgers (Oct. 27), who all qualified for the NCAA Tournament field last fall.
The highlight to Temple's home schedule will come during the final homestand of the season when it hosts Louisville on Oct. 17 and Cincinnati for Senior Day on Oct. 20.
When it comes off its four-game road trip to open the season against Marshall, the Owls will begin a stretch in which they will play six of seven games at the Ambler Sports Complex. During that span, TU will welcome Rider (Sept. 8) and Binghamton (Sept. 13), before visiting in-state rival Lafayette (Sept. 15) and returning to host Delaware (Sept. 22), Houston (Sept. 26) and Southern Methodist (Sept. 29).
Sandwiched between its season opener at NJIT and its match at Loyola Maryland, Temple will also make visits to Delaware State (Aug. 25) and to Mount St. Mary's (Aug. 29) during the four-game road swing to open the season.
In its first go-around of the American Athletic Conference, the Owls will make a weekend trip to the Sunshine State, where they will visit South Florida (Oct. 4)—the 2012 runner-up in the American Division of the BIG EAST last season— and Central Florida (Oct. 6).
Before returning home to close out its home slate, the Cherry and White will head to Connecticut for a match under the lights on Oct. 11. Temple closes out the season with American games at Memphis (Oct. 24) and Rutgers (Oct. 27).
The American Athletic Conference Tournament is set to open with first round games on Oct. 31 before concluding with the title game on Nov. 10. The 2013 NCAA Championship is scheduled to begin with first round action on Nov. 15-17 while the national champion will be crowned on Dec. 8 in Cary, N.C.
