Cross Country Will Host the 2nd Annual Friend Big 5 Invitational on Friday at Fairmount Park

PHILADELPHIA - Teams from around the city will join Temple cross country as the Owls host the second annual Friend Big 5 Invitational on Friday, Sept. 13 at Belmont Plateau in West Fairmount Park. The women's 4,000m race will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's 6,000m race at 6:00 p.m.Â
The race will be spectator-friendly, with the women running four 1,000m loops on the main field and the men running six 1,000m loops. The meet was established last year by the Owls in memory of Roswell Friend, a teammate who passed away at the start of the 2011 season.Â
"We're very excited to host the second annual Friend Invitational in conjunction with the rest of the Big 5," said Eric Mobley, head coach of Temple's men's and women's cross country and track & field teams. "We host this meet in Roswell's honor, and it also gives our fans another opportunity to come out and support Temple cross country."
On the men's side, current senior Will Kellar was the runner-up in the men's race at the Friend Invitational a year ago with a time of 27:49. For the women, junior Jenna Dubrow won last year's meet in a time of 19:05.
Both teams began the season two weeks ago at the Lehigh Invitational, where Temple's top finisher was women's' cross country senior Anna Pavone, placing 22nd in a time of 23:57.74 for the 6k race.
