Women's Soccer Defeats Binghamton 2-0 for First Home Victory

AMBLER, Pa. – Temple women's soccer defeated Binghamton 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex. Erin Lafferty and Elaine Byerley both scored in the second half to give the Owls the victory.

After starting the season off with four straight wins on the road and then dropping two games at home, the Owls responded with their first home victory of the season. Their five wins in 2013 matches the win total in each of the previous two seasons.

Lafferty scored the game-winning goal off of a penalty kick in the 64th minute. A foul by Binghamton in its own box set up the penalty kick for Lafferty, and she easily put it right past the goalie for her second game-winning goal of the season.

Byerley added an insurance goal for the Owls 15 minutes later. Kaylee Harner sent a nice cross over the box, and Byerley headed it in for her first goal and points of the season.

Goalie Shauni Kerkhoff picked up the win for the Owls to push her record to 5-2. Each win has been a shutout for her, and she has only allowed two goals for the season. She made two saves in the game.

Temple outshot the Bearcats 14-8, and had five more shots on goal than the Bearcats.

The Owls go back on the road for another non-conference game this Sunday against Lafayette at 1:00 p.m. Lafayette is 3-1 this season.
