PHILADELPHIA - The home opener has nearly arrived for Temple volleyball after three weeks on the road to open the 2013 season. The Owls will host the Temple Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 20-21 in the newly-renovated McGonigle Gym, featuring a brand-new court and Temple graphics adorning the walls. The Owls will officially begin their home season on Friday night when they face Delaware State at 7:00 p.m.

Friday night's match will feature free t-shirts for students as well as other giveaways such as schedule cards and posters. The best-represented residence hall will win a prize. On Saturday night when the Owls face Hofstra at 7:00 p.m., the theme is Hawaiian Night and leis will be given away. Temple's third match of the tournament will be earlier on Saturday when the Owls face Brown at 1:00 p.m.

Live stats will be available for all matches through the above link, while free live streams will be available for Temple's three matches.

Temple is 7-2 so far this season, which is the best start for the program since 2001. The Owls went 3-0 at the Patriot Invitational two weeks ago to take the team title, and senior Gabriella Matautia was named Tournament MVP. She also earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors following that tournament.

Last weekend the Owls went 2-1 at the nearby Penn Invitational, defeating both Weber State and La Salle by scores of 3-1 before dropping a tightly-contested, five-set match to host Penn. Matautia was named the tournament's Most Valuable Opposite.

Brown enters this weekend's tournament at 2-5 overall, while Delaware State is currently 1-5. Hofstra has the best record other than Temple, having gone 7-4 so far. The Pride started the season 4-0 and have also won three of their last four.
