AMBLER, Pa. – Temple women's soccer dropped a home decision to SMU 1-0 (6-4-1, 1-1-0) on Sunday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex. This marks the first loss in American Athletic Conference play for the Owls (6-4-1, 1-1-0).

The first half was scoreless. SMU had control of the ball for most of the half, and they had a 9-3 shot advantage in the first half.

The Mustangs scored in the 53rd minute for the game-winner. Courtney Smith crossed the ball over into the middle of the box, and Kelsey Gorney made a sliding kick to score.

After the goal, the Owls played even with the Mustangs, but couldn't create any quality scoring chances. The Owls did not get any shots on the Mustang goalie in the second half.

Goalie Shauni Kerkhoff got the loss for the Owls. She had six saves in the game.

"I'm very proud of my team today even though we lost," Head coach Seamus O'Connor said. "The 1-0 score doesn't reflect how hard and tough we played. SMU is a very good team, and we were just one play away from tying them up. They converted on one really good play, and that was the difference."

Up next for Temple is a road to Florida, as the Owls will play at USF next Friday at 7:30 p.m. and at UCF next Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Bulls are 6-2-3, 0-1-0, and the Knights are 8-2-1, 1-0-0.
