PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Temple women's soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Marshall on Friday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex in the home opener for the Owls. The loss ends the Owls' four game-winning streak to start the season, which was the best in program history.

Marshall's Myka DeMarco scored the only goal in the game in the 33rd minute of the first half. DeMarco took advantage of a turnover by Temple in the Owl's own zone and buried it past goalkeeper Shauni Kerkhoff.

Marshall's goal snapped Kerkhoff's shutout streak to start the season. She went 237 minutes not allowing a goal to start the season before DeMarco's goal. Kerkhoff made eight saves on Marshall's 19 shots.

Temple registered four shots total with one on goal. Paula Jurewicz led the way with two shots.

The Owls continue the 2013 season with another non-conference home game this Sunday against Rider at 12:00 p.m. Rider is 2-2 this season after winning 4-1 at home Friday afternoon against Mount St. Mary's.
