When Super Bowl XLVIII takes place in two weeks on Sunday, February 2, 2014, the Cherry Crusade will have something to cheer about.

Former Temple Owl, Terrance Knighton, will come running out of the tunnel at Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, when the Denver Broncos defense is announced. Knighton, who is in his first season with the Broncos has emerged as one of the leaders of the defense that dominated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in a 26-16 win in the AFC Championship game today.

Knighton was a monster in the Championship game with four tackles, a sack, and two tackles for loss. This season he started all 18 games and registered regular season numbers of 31 tackles, three sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery.

"Temple molded me into the character I have now," Knighton told the Philadelphia Inquirer earlier this week. "And [taught] me how to handle adversity."

The Windsor, CT, native played for Temple from 2006-08 and was a team captain as a senior. The steady defensive lineman collected 50+ tackles in each of his three seasons as a starter and totaled 184 tackles, seven sacks, 26 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. He was a 2008 third round draft choice of the Jacksonville jaguars where he played for head coach Jack Del Rio. When Knighton became a free agent last offseason, he rejoined Del Rio who is now the Broncos defensive coordinator.

Joining Knighton in the Broncos squad is rookie defensive end John Youbooty. Youbooty spent the season on Denver's practice squad following a two year career at Temple. He led the Owls with six sacks in 2012.
