PHILADELPHIA – Temple University's student-athletes have recorded their highest combined grade-point average (GPA) on record during the fall semester, Justin Miller, Director at the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes, announced on Thursday.

For the fourth consecutive semester, the Owls' 24 sports teams combined for a GPA of 3.0 or better. For Fall 2013, the Owls reached an all-time best 3.05 combined GPA for a fall semester.

"We are so very proud of the success of our student-athletes in the classroom," said Director of Athletics Kevin Clark.  "Winning on the field of competition is important, but at the end of the day, educating our student-athletes is the primary mission of Temple University.

This is a team effort, and my congratulations not only goes to our student-athletes, but to Justin Miller and his exceptional staff along with our coaches who continue to emphasize the importance of academic success."

Individually, 59 percent of the student-athletes (347) earned a 3.0+ GPA last fall, the most in the school's history. Additionally, 58 percent (220-of-383) of returning student-athletes have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

Men's tennis (3.55) and field hockey (3.49) led 15 programs with a 3.0+ combined GPA. Fourteen teams improved their GPA from Fall 2012 to Fall 2013.

Overall, 18 programs have a cumulative GPA of better than 3.0, led by men's tennis (3.56) and field hockey (3.43).  Ten programs also improved their cumulative GPA from Fall 2012 to Fall 2013.
