Temple Women's Rowing Opens Season at Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's rowing team opened the 2014-15 season on Saturday at the Navy Day Regatta, held on the Schuylkill River. The Owls entered six boats at the event, which featured over 650 entries from 90 different programs.
Temple raced three boats in the collegiate 4+ race, a pair in the collegiate 8+, and also added a JV 8+ entry. The Owls' fours led the charge in the wet and chilly conditions, as Temple placed all three entries in the top half of the field, led by a fifth place finish from the A boat.
Temple's four A finished with a time of 16:46.96, ranking the effort fifth in the field of 22. The boat was comprised of coxswain Eleanor Oken, and rowers Lily Papaleo (stroke), Charlotte Forman (three seat), Annie Buckley (two seat), and Kathy Bostion (bow).
The Owls B and C entries finished just over a second apart. The B boat ranked ninth overall in 17:07.66, while the C boat finished in 17:08.85. The B boat was made up of coxswain Erin Matz, and rowers Kayla Dorney (stroke), Danielle White (three seat), Grace Kroner (two seat), and Gina Inverso (bow), while the C boat featured coxswain Nicole Stark, and rowers Moira Meekes (stroke), Callie DiGuardia (three seat), Olivia Aizen (two seat), and Emily Opperman (bow).
In the collegiate 8+ race, Temple boats finished ninth (A) and 12th (B) in the field of 16 entries. The A boat clocked in at a time of 15:01.92, and was made up of Nicole Barth (coxswain), Emily Mehler (stroke), Megan Gleason (seven seat), Jenna Bahel (six seat), Brianne Wojciechowski (five seat), Olivia Aizen (four seat), Layla Moran (three seat), Aimee Meissner (two seat), and Samantha Sederstrand (bow). The B boat finished in a time of 15:23.77, and was made up of Erin Matz (coxswain), Kayla Dorney (stroke), Danielle White (seven seat), Annie Buckley (six seat), Charlotte Forman (five seat), Grace Kroner (four seat), Kathy Bostion (three seat), Aimee Meissner (two seat), and Gina Inverso (bow).
Temple's JV boat also fared well at the event, finishing ninth overall in a time of 16:05.0.
