Men's Soccer Faces Yale in First Ever Meeting Between the Two Schools

PHILADELPHIA - Temple men's soccer heads to New Haven, Conn. to face Yale for the first meeting ever between the two schools.  Yale will serve as the final nonconference opponent for Temple this season.  Yale looks to win their first game of the season after starting 0-8-2.

HEADLINES
  • Temple is 2-8-2, 1-2-1 with American Athletic Conference play underway for the 2014 season.  The Owls tied UCF last Wednesday 1-1.  Redshirt-senior forward Chas Wilson scored with less than three minutes left in regulation to tie the game.  The Owls dropped their last game to SMU 2-1 in overtime on Saturday.
  • 12 underclassmen have started a game for Temple.  16 total underclassmen have appeared in a game.
  • Five freshmen have started at least seven games for the Owls: midfielder Felipe Liborio (11 games), midfielder Miguel Polley (10), defender Mark Grasela (seven), midfielder Brendon Creed (eight), and forward Olli Tynkkynen (seven).
  • Senior goalkeeper Dan Scheck is currently second in career allowed average (0.87) behind Jeff Kraft's (1977-80) 0.85 average and ranks fourth in career wins (16).
  • Sophomore defender Robert Sagel has played all 1,143 minutes of the season.  Sophomore defender Matt Mahoney is second in minutes played with 1,085.
  • Sagel, Scheck and junior forward/midfielder Jared Martinelli were selected to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team.  Scheck was voted by the coaches as the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.
  • Temple was predicted to finish fifth in the conference by the preseason coaches' poll.
  • Yale is the second Ivy League opponent for Temple (Penn on Sept. 21) and the final nonconference opponent of the season.
  • Yale comes into the game with a 0-8-2, 0-2-0 record. 
  • The Bulldogs have scored four goals all season while giving up 15.  Only two of their losses have been decided by more than one goal.
  • Yale has only four seniors on their roster and started five underclassmen in their previous game at Dartmouth 
  • Freshman midfielder/defender Ollie Iselin scored his first career goal against Dartmouth.  Iselin has started eight games for the Bulldogs.
  • Senior Blake Brown and sophomore Ryan Simpson have shared the goalkeeper duties.  Brown has allowed nine goals in six games while making 24 saves.  Simpson has allowed six goals in five games with 20 saves.
  • This is the first ever meeting between the two schools.
