DALLAS – Temple women's soccer lost 1-0 at SMU Thursday night. The Owls drop to 9-4-1 and 2-2-1 in the conference while the Mustangs improve to 6-8-0 and 2-2-0 in the conference.
SMU gained control early in the first half as Rikki Clarke scored at the19:30 minute mark assisted by Chinelo Odobulu. The Owls fought hard with some quality shots but ended the half down 1-0.
During the second half, the Owls came out aggressively with several decent attempts at target but could not find the goal. The Owls outshot the Mustangs 11 to 1 in the second half and the score stayed 1-0 until the end of regulation. Temple finished the game out-shooting SMU 15 to 3.
"Very unlucky," said head coach Seamus O'Connor. "They executed our game plan and they executed everything I asked of them. It was very encouraging and a total team effort. Second half we dominated and just did stuff that you can build on. Losing Paula Jurewicz was a huge loss and I was pleased to see players stepping up and chipping in where they could. Sure it's disappointing we didn't get any points away from the game; but at the end of the day that's life you don't always get what you deserve."
The Owls will be back in action Sunday, Oct. 12th against Houston. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start at Lewis International Complex.
