PHILADELPHIA -- Temple women's basketball head coach Tonya Cardoza has signed a pair of recruits for the 2015-16 season. Next season's Owls will include Philadelphia's Deja Reynolds and Binghamton N.Y.'s Chyanna Canada. Both student-athletes are standout players at the high school and AAU level.

A 5-9 guard, Reynolds is a three-year member of Philadelphia's All-City and All-Public School All-Star teams. As a junior, she led Imhotep Charter High School to a 22-2 overall record and the Philadelphia Girls Public City Championship. Reynolds has already reached the 1,000-point plateau for the Panthers, averaging 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and three steals per game last season. She plays on the Philly Triple Threat AAU team and has been awarded MVP honors in the 2014 8-Eye Classic, the 2014 MLK Classic, and several recruiting showcases.

Reynolds is a member of her high school mock trial debate team and has been named to the Imhotep honor roll. She plans on majoring in Physical Therapy at Temple, and was drawn to the university because of the fit with the basketball program. "I felt that the coaching and practice styles of the Temple team were very complimentary to my tempo of play, which would prepare me for the next level of competition," she noted. "I felt that I would mesh well with the team and that I could be an asset to the program."

Cardoza is excited to have a local-product in Reynolds. "It is always exciting when you can keep local talent in Philadelphia -- Deja is a Philly kid and is very proud to represent her city," she noted. "Deja is a versatile guard with tremendous athleticism. I look forward to her impact next year both on the offensive and defensive end, and most importantly, I'm excited about the toughness and passion that she plays the game with."

A 6'2 forward, Chyanna Canada is three-time All-League selection and a returning All-Area selection at Nottingham High School. As a sophomore and a junior, she averaged a double-double in points and rebounds. Last season, Canada posted 14 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks per game, earning a spot on the All-Central New York Team and leading her team to the sectional semifinals.

Canada, who also plays high school softball, carries a 3.4 GPA and has already earned her regents diploma. She plays AAU for the Albany City Rocks and intends to major in Business and Finance/Marketing at Temple. Canada felt like a good fit for the Owls on her visit to the school. "The Temple team and the coaches made me feel comfortable and like I was already a part of the family," she said. "I fell in love with the entire 'Temple Experience' on my visit."

Cardoza thinks Canada will have an immediate impact on the program. "Chyanna has been highly successful both in the classroom as well as on the court," she noted. "Chyanna has the ability to not only play on the block, but can face up to score the basketball. Her versatility, athleticism, passion and knowledge of the game are just a few of the contributions that she will add to our program."

Temple will open the 2014-15 season on Friday, hosting Big 5-rival La Salle at 4:30 p.m. at the Liacouras Center.
