Memphis recap

News & Notes Following Temple's 16-13 loss vs. Memphis

Temple lost on a field goal as time expired. The kick was a 31-yarder by Jake Elliott. Almost a year ago, on 11/19/13, Temple lost on a field goal as time expired to UCF. UCF was the first place team in the conference and on the strength of its victory, Memphis now resides atop the American Athletic Conference.

Temple's redshirt freshman Brian Carter made his first-ever start on the offensive line. He was a starter at defensive tackle just two weeks ago. He started at RG and Brendan McGowan was moved to LG becoming the fourth player in as many weeks to start at that position (Shabaz Ahmed, Samaj Reed, Leon Johnson and McGowan).

Senior RB Kenneth Harper broke off a 75-yard TD run to open the scoring and finished with 17 rushes for a career-high 116 yards and one TD. The 75-yard run was the longest of his career and the longest run from scrimmage by an Owl since 2006 (Tim Brown 78-yard TD at Vanderbilt).

Freshman kicker Austin Jones tied the game at 13 with 2:46 remaining in the game on a 46-yard field goal.

Senior Jalen Fitzpatrick had 5 first half catches (for 64 yards) before suffering ankle and knee injuries in the 2nd quarter that sidelined him for the remainder of the game. He still led all pass catchers.

Temple, who led the nation in interceptions with 8 after 4 games, has gone 5 straight games without a pick.

Memphis entered the game with the best scoring offense (36.2ppg) and rushing offense (206.0) and was held to less than half of those numbers – 16 points and 82 rushing yards.
