Men's Basketball Takes on La Salle Saturday at The Palestra

PHILADELPHIA - From one Big 5 battle to another the Temple men's basketball team, coming off a 58-56 loss at Saint Joseph's Wednesday, travels to The Palestra Saturday for a city-series clash with La Salle (Noon/ESPNews/1210 AM WPHT).
The Owls (4-3, 1-1 Big 5) will look to avenge a loss to the Explorers at the historic venure last season in a game that also played host to ESPN's College GameDay. Â Overall, Temple owns a 73-41 advantage in the series, and has won 16 of the last 20 meetings.
It is a special game for Temple head coach Fran Dunphy, who played his college ball at La Salle (1967-70) and served as an assistant coach at the school (1979-80, 1985-88). Â Dunphy has compiled a 25-7 record against his alma mater, including a 12-3 mark while at Temple.
Senior guard Will Cummings continues to lead the Owls in scoring (14.9 ppg.), rebounding (6.9 rpg.), assists (3.4 apg,) and steals 1.2 spg,). Â His backcourt mate, junior Quenton DeCosey (13.4 ppg.), is coming off a season-high 22 points and has scored in double figures in the last six outings. Â
La Salle (4-3, 0-1) opened the season with four straight wins, but has lost its last three with two coming at the hands of Top 10 opponents (#8/7 Virginia, #10/9 Villanova). Sophomore Jordan Price leads the Explorers and the Big 5 in scoring (16.6 ppg.). Â Senior forward Jerrell Wright (12. 1 ppg./7.1 rpg.) also averages double figures while senior center Steve Zack (8.6 ppg./7.6 rpg.) tops the squad in rebounding.
