Outfielder Annie Marcopolus Invited to Play on Greek National Team
3.10.14 | Softball
PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore Annie Marcopolus (Newtown, Pa./Notre Dame (N.J.)) has been invited to play on the 2014 Greek National Softball Team this summer. The outfielder has been asked to play in the IV European Championship Under-22 Tournament.
The event, which will take place in Bulgaria from July 6-12, will see the Greek team face Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Sweden and Croatia. The team will meet and spend around a week in Greece before heading to Bulgaria.
"I'm beyond excited about the opportunity, and I think it would be an amazing experience," said Marcopolus. "I have always wanted to visit Greece and see where my dad's side of the family came from. This trip would be the best of both worlds. I'd get to travel and see other parts of the world, all while getting the chance to play the sport that I love!"
For the Owls this spring, Marcopolus is batting .293 with a career-best three triples through 18 games. Temple is 7-11, and is set to play its first home games of the season with a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Delaware State on Wednesday, March 12.
