PHILADELPHIA - There are two games left before the start of BIG EAST play for Temple lacrosse, and the first of those is at home on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. as the Owls play host to Hofstra. UPDATE: Fans can listen to a free live stream of the game and follow along on live stats through the links above. The original video stream has been canceled due to weather.
Temple is coming off a tough stretch, having lost three straight. The Owls have played strong in the second half of most games, but only after falling behind early in those contests. Temple is 2-5 overall, and will play one more non-conference game after Wednesday, traveling Saturday to UMBC.
Hofstra, at 5-3 overall, had won three straight before a narrow 9-8 loss to #20 Ohio State on March 15. Another of the Pride's losses came at the hands of #3 Maryland. Temple is 2-1 all-time against Hofstra, but last year's meeting was an 8-5 win for the Pride on their home field.
Senior Jaymie Tabor has been scoring at a rapid pace to lead Temple, and her 15 goals (2.50 goals per game) currently rank in a tie for third among all players in the BIG EAST Conference. She scored six of those goals in the Owls' 10-8 win vs. Oregon, reaching the six-goal mark for the third time in her career. She has scored at least one goal in all six games she has played in after missing the season opener due to injury. She notched a hat trick at Cornell and recently scored twice in Temple's 12-9 loss at Denver.
After Saturday's game at UMBC on March 22, Temple will return home for its first four BIG EAST games. The BIG EAST?opener has the Owls hosting UConn on Saturday, March 29.
The Owls spent Spring Break in Colorado, training at altitude, bonding as a team and playing two games against tough teams. Temple lost 15-6 at Colorado, but played a much closer game at Denver. The Owls rallied late but lost 12-9 despite the first career hat trick for sophomore Nicole Tiernan. Senior Kelly Syphard scored twice at Colorado, while freshman Carly Demato scored a goal and recorded an assist.
This past Saturday, Temple fell into an early hole against Delaware and could not recover, losing 16-9. After falling behind 8-1, the Owls matched the Blue Hens the rest of the way but could gain no ground. Demato was a standout for Temple, recording her first career hat trick with three goals while also tallying an assist.
