TUFB Team Commitment Week
3.20.14 | Football
The Temple Owls football team has been going through "Team Commitment Week" since Monday, March 17 and will continue with the final day tomorrow, March 21.
Last week, ten captains were chosen and each selected six other teammates to create ten teams of seven student-athletes. Then, one coach was added to each squad. Each team was tasked to come up with a team name and a twitter handle.
The competition stresses team building, focus, and accountability through various physical and mental challenges. When the players wake up each morning and report to the Pavilion at 6:00am, that is when they first find out about the day's events. Monday through Wednesday consisted of several activities that they have been familiar with: weight lifting, pull-ups, bear crawls, crab walks, medicine balls, sprinting, etc.
The teams have also had a chance to win points by knowing about the history of Temple University, and taking part in school activities. Likewise, they have lost points if they were late for class or appointments, or simply not paying attention.
However, today's schedule was presented by Temple's Army ROTC cadets and the events were out of the football team's comfort zone. The players, who reported at 5:30am for instructions, were dispersed to five locations on campus and had to transport food and supplies across Geasey Field, push a 15-person passenger van on the roof of the Liacouras parking garage, do biathlon training with laser rifles, and carry each other across a football field, among their challenges.
Team Shake N Bake, captained by center Kyle Friend, won today's Ranger Challenge and moved into third place overall with just a day and a half to go.
