Brown Named American Sixth Player of the Year; Fitzgerald, Thames, Robinson Earn All-Conference Honors

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Temple junior Rateska Brown (Alvin, S.C.) has been named the 2014 American Sixth Player of the Year, the American Athletic Conference announced on Thursday.

Freshman Feyonda Fitzgerald (Norfolk, Va.) and senior Natasha Thames (Port Huron, Mich.) earned second-team All-Conference honors.

Fitzgerald and freshman Taylor Robinson (St. Louis, Mo.) were named to the All-Freshman Team. Fitzgerald was a unanimous selection.

Brown, a 5-6 guard, has played in 23 games off the bench for the Owls this season. She averages 8.0 ppg and 2.3 rpg in 20.3 mpg. Brown is the Owl's top three-point shooter at 36.4 percent.

Fitzgerald, a 5-7 point guard, has been the team leader all season. She averages a team-best 12.6 ppg and 4.0 apg. A starter in all 29 games, Fitzgerald earned the Conference Freshman of the Week honor five times throughout the season.

Thames, a 6-0 forward, is a four-year starter for the Owls. This season she stands second in team scoring with 10.5 ppg and is the team's leading rebounder with 7.3 rpg. She holds the school record for most games played (133) and ranks sixth on the career rebounding chart (823).

Robinson, a 6-4 center, has played in 23 games with 10 starts as a rookie. She averages 4.6 ppg and 3.7 rpg while blocking 11 shots. Â

Temple (14-15 overall) is the No. 6 seed in this weekend's American Athletic Conference Championship and will face No. 3 seed USF (18-11 overall) in quarterfinal action on Saturday, March 8 at 8 p.m. on ESPN3 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
