Temple Plays Annual Cherry & White Game this Saturday!
4.21.14 | Football
Temple University will hold its annual Cherry & White Spring football game this Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Cardinal O'Hara High School 1701 S. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064). Kickoff is set for 1:00pm. Admission and parking are free.
Under the direction of second year head coach Matt Rhule, the Owls will divide the team up and scrimmage in its final practice of the Spring. Rosters will be available later in the week.
Through the first four weeks of practice, the offense and defense have each had their shining moments. Quarterback P.J. Walker, coming off a 2013 true freshman season that resulted in Athlon's publications tabbing him as one of the "Top 5 Players to Watch in 2014," continues to mature and lead the offense. Offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield is adding a few new wrinkles into an offense that exploded last season averaging nearly 400-yard per game.
On the defensive side, linebacker Tyler Matakevich continues to perform at an All-America level. The junior went from conference freshman defensive player of the year to leading the nation in solo tackles (8.8 per game) a year ago. With another year of defensive coordinator Phil Snow's system under their belt, the defense promises to be vastly improved.
This fan and family friendly day will begin at 11:30am when the Kid Zone will open for moon bounce, clowns, face painters, photo booth, and more! Stella, the official Temple Owl mascot from the Elmwood Park Zoo, will be available for pictures! Following the game, kids in attendance will have the chance to partake in drills with the players!
Fans are able to tailgate at this event! Approved tailgate items include grills, food, non-alcoholic beverages (alcoholic beverages are prohibited), music, tables and chairs. Food and beverages (including hot dogs, pizza, soft pretzels, soda and bottled water) will be available for purchase at this event.
