PHILADELPHIA - While still in the midst of the outdoor track & field season, Temple's cross country teams took a Sunday morning to volunteer on the course of the Valley Forge Revolutionary 5-Mile Run on April 27. Last week was "National Park Week," and assistant coach James Snyder, who coaches Temple's distance runners, said it was a great opportunity for the Owls to give back to the community in a way that's closely connected to the sport they love.

The trails at Valley Forge National Historic Park are ones Temple trains on regularly, and the knowledge of the park was an asset as volunteers. There were over 1,000 runners in the 5-mile race, along with walkers and a kids run. The Temple athletes helped guide runners along the course and cheered them on along the way, even meeting some Temple alums as well as three professors.

"I'm proud of our team for taking time out of their Sunday to give back to the Philadelphia-area running community," said Snyder. "Valley Forge National Historical Park is one of the many beautiful places where we train, so helping out along the trails during National Park Week was something very meaningful to us. We're incredibly thankful to Race Director Kirsten Tallman and Volunteer Coordinator Joseph Nevin for allowing us to participate in such a spectacular event."
