Team TUFF to Participate in Susan G. Komen Race
4.30.14 | Football
FLIER
For the eighth straight year the Temple Owls football team will be volunteering at the 2014 Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Race for a Cure on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014. Over 40 players will be on hand at the race passing out bottles of water and words of encouragement to the racers. You can join a number of players who will be partaking in the 5K run, 5K walk, or 1-mile fun walk.
Head coach Matt Rhule and his wife Julie, will be co-sponsoring Team TUFF (Temple University Football Family) in the event again this year. The event touches close to home for the Rhule family, as Julie's mother lost an unfortunate battle with breast cancer in 2012 and Matt's mother is a breast cancer survivor. Fellow Owls Brandon Chudnoff and Adam Metz also have a connection to the race as both of their mothers are breast cancer survivors. Chudnoff has volunteered and participated in the race long before his days on North Broad.
"Matt and I are so excited to continue and grow this campus-wide initiative," Julie Rhule said. "We hope that we have a huge commitment from the University community. More than 40 of the Owl players have already signed up to participate in this event. We all have mothers, sisters, relatives, and friends who have had breast cancer. We want to raise money and awareness for this treatable disease."
Students, faculty, staff, and all members of the Temple family are encouraged to join Team TUFF!
If you cannot attend the race you can still make a donation!

Temple football has received recognition through the years for its community service efforts. The Owls, who log more than 1,000 hours of community service each spring, have helped with the Susan G. Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure for the last seven years. In 2011, the Philadelphia Affiliate honored the Temple team members as its 2011 Most Valuable Players.
