PHILADELPHIA – The Rimington Trophy committee has released its 2014 Spring Watch List which includes Temple University center Kyle Friend.
Friend, a two-year starter at center, is entering his junior year. As a true freshman in 2012, he started five games at right guard before embarking on his current streak of 16 consecutive starts at center. Not only was he one of only three players to start every game on offense in 2013 but he was the only player to play every offensive snap of the season.
The Carlisle, PA, native is a standout both on and off the field. As a sophomore in 2013, he served as one of the team's four captains and has earned Conference All-Academic honors in each of his first two seasons.
"I'm honored to be on the 2014 Rimington Watch List," said Friend. "I'm very proud when an honor is bestowed upon our school and I'm humbled that I can bring positive recognition to Temple."
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A College Football. Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised over $2.5 million for the cystic fibrosis community. The 14-year old award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $100 million for CF Research.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
