PHILADELPHIA - The 2014 College Football Awards Watch Lists continue to be rolled out and there is no shortage of Temple Owls on the lists.
Quarterback P.J. Walker finds himself on the Maxwell Award, Davey O'Brien Award, and CFPA QB Trophy watch lists. The Maxwell Award is given annually to college football's most outstanding player. The Davey O'Brien Award and CFPA QB Trophy (College Football Performance Awards) is presented to college football's top quarterback.
Linebacker Tyler Matakevich is on the Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Butkus Award, and Rotary Lombardi Award watch lists. Both the Bednarik Award (Maxwell Football Club) and Nagurski Trophy (Football Writers Association of America) are awarded to the college football defensive player of the year. The Butkus Award goes to the nation's best linebacker and the Rotary Lombardi Award is given to the nation's best down lineman or linebacker.
Center Kyle Friend is on the Rimington Trophy watch List. The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I-A College Football.
Running back Kenneth Harper is the most recent Owl to join the group of honorees. He is among the players on the Doak Walker Award Watch list given to the top running back in college football by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.
In the past two weeks, the members of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) have been unveiling their preseason watch lists. Fifteen of the association's 21 awards select a preseason watch list and the NCFAA has spearheaded a coordinated effort to promote each award's preseason candidates. Following is the complete 2014 preseason watch list calendar:
Mon., July 7: Bednarik Award (top defensive player) / Maxwell Award (top player)
Tue., July 8: Mackey Award (top tight end) / Rimington Trophy (top center)
Wed., July 9: Lou Groza Award (top kicker) / Ray Guy Award (top punter)
Thurs., July 10: Bronko Nagurski Trophy (top defensive player) / Outland Trophy (top interior lineman)
Fri., July 11: Jim Thorpe Award (top defensive back)
Mon., July 14: Butkus Award (top linebacker) / Rotary Lombardi Award (top down lineman)
Tue., July 15: Biletnikoff Award (top receiver)
