8.16.14 | Football

The Owls held their second scrimmage of camp on Saturday, August 16. Afterwards, head coach Matt Rhule spoke with the attending media. Selected quotes from Coach Rhule are below. For the full video, click here.

The Owls will resume practice on Monday, August 18 at 8am at Edberg-Olson Field. Attending practice that day will be FOX29's "Good Day Philadelphia" with live hits beginning at 7:45am.

On WR Romond Deloatch: "Romond had a couple great catches, he's got really great hands. Romond's issue is that when Romond is running full speed, he's a really good player. It's getting him healthy; but having him back out there is nice. He and Khalif [Herbin] had a couple big plays…but Romond's got great hands; he can play receiver, he can play tight end. He can do it all for us."

On RBs Jahad Thomas and Hassan Dixon: "Jahad's got tremendous vision; he can cut, he can make you miss, he can catch the ball out of the backfield. So he and Hassan have been nice, pleasant surprises. We always knew Hassan could run the ball, he just had to be a little more consistent blocking and he has catch better. In our offense, you have to be able to catch the football, but as he works on that, I believe both of those guys will find roles, along with Kenny [Harper]."

On the biggest spots that need to be filled: "I think the running back, who the second guy is going to be with Kenny [Harper], what roles they have. And really a wide out. Matt Eaton was back out there; he didn't scrimmage, but he did all the seven-on-seven's and one-on-one's, but where is he going to fit in? Where does Sam [Benjamin] and Nate [Hairston] fit, who are the guys? Those are some pretty good battles. At linebacker, we feel pretty good about Nate [D. Smith] and Tyler [Matakevich], just who that third guy is, we have a lot of guys who it could be. There's probably battles everywhere; a lot of it is 'Am I a two, am I a three, or am I a one?' We know who is in the mix, but who is going to start, who is going to play? Those are the questions for us."
