Cross Country Teams Begin Season at Covered Bridge Open on Friday

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's and women's cross country teams open the 2014 season on Friday, Aug. 29 at the Covered Bridge Open hosted by Appalachian State University. The women's 5K run starts at 5:00 p.m., with the men's 4 mile run to follow at 5:35 p.m. Check out the video links above for pre-meet interviews with cross country coach James Snyder and student-athletes Jenna Dubrow and Matthew Kacyon.
The teams leave Thursday morning and race Friday evening, but will spend the rest of the weekend training and participating in team bonding activities.
Temple's leading returner on the women's side is senior Dubrow, who placed sixth in last year's ECAC Championships and 23rd in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championships. Dubrow closed out the recent outdoor track season by breaking her own school record in the 10,000 meter and taking third in the event at the ECAC Championships.
Leading the veterans on the men's side will be junior Alex Izewski and redshirt junior Kacyon. Izewski was the Owls' top finisher at the 2013 IC4A Championships, taking 11th place. He is also the school record-holder for Temple in the indoor 5,000 meter run after taking fifth place at last year's American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Kacyon took a redshirt year during last year's cross country season, but was one of the Owls' top performers for outdoor track. He placed second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the American Athletic Conference Championships, third in the same event at the IC4A Championships, and went on to represent Temple at the NCAA East Region Preliminary.
