Volleyball Season Begins at Syracuse Invitational This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA - The 2014 season officially begins for Temple volleyball this weekend as the Owls travel to the Syracuse Invitational for three matches. Temple will face Niagara first on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 1:30 p.m. before taking on host Syracuse at 6:30 p.m. the same day. The Owls will finish up with Delaware State on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.Â
Temple head coach Bakeer Ganes talked to OwlSports.com about the team's readiness after many weeks of practice, and about the opponents Temple will face this weekend. Check out the video links above to see the interview.
The Owls faced Niagara for the first time early in the 2013 season, and won that match by a score of 3-2. Temple last faced Syracuse early in Ganes' first season, losing 3-1. The Orangewomen have a 7-4 lead in the all-time series between the teams. The Owls are a perfect 2-0 all-time against Delaware State, and swept the Hornets 3-0 at home last year.

•    Temple finished at 18-12 in 2013, marking the Owls' second-straight season with a winning percentage of .600 or better.
•    Head Coach Bakeer Ganes is now in his fourth year at the helm of the program, with an overall record of 45-43...His record for the last two seasons is 37-23.
