Women’s Soccer Falls 3-2 in Overtime at La Salle

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer lost a 3-2 overtime heartbreaker to city rival La Salle Sunday afternoon. The Owls drop to 7-2 while the Explorers improve to 4-3-2

The first half was evenly matched as shots were locked in at five a piece. La Salle scored first at the 25:53 minute mark, when La Salle sent over a cross that was deposited by Kelsey Las Haycook in the lower left hand corner.

The second half opened up in scoring. Temple's Kayla Cunningham put one in the net at the 64:40 minute mark. The goal started as a shot from the right side which came off the keeper's hands and was dribbled in by Cunningham. La Salle would respond at the 77:40 minute mark, when Jessika Las Kagan beat the defense and dribbled past the keeper on an empty net. Shortly after, Temple would find the equalizer at the 79:59 minute mark as Alyssa Kirk scored off a corner. The second half ended with a tie at two to two.

Overtime ended three minutes in when La Salle's Jessika Las Kagan found the back of the net at the 93:01 minute mark registering her second goal of the game. The match ended with both teams collecting thirteen shots a piece; Temple lead with eight shots on goal to La Salle's seven.

"Sometimes it just doesn't go your way," said head coach Seamus O'Connor. "This was the best team we played so far. It was a tremendous effort by our team and I am so heartbroken for them. I felt we outplayed them; again we were just unlucky at times. I am so happy how we bounced back from Friday's loss at Delaware. We just need to work a little on the execution and I feel our team will be ready for conference play."

The Owls will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 25 when they travel to Cincinnati to start conference play. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. start.
