Temple Adds More Honors

After a stunning performance last week at Vanderbilt, CB Tavon Young has been named the Jim Thorpe Defensive Back of the Week. Young accounted for two tackles and two interceptions, one of which was returned for 35 yards.

In addition to this award, Young was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

QB P.J. Walker also scooped up an accolade this week, being named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week. At Vanderbilt, Walker threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns, as well as rushing for 21 yards and one touchdown.

DT Averee Robinson was named the College Football Performance Awards National Defensive Performer of the Week, as well as CFPA's Defensive Lineman of the Week. Robinson also picked up College Sports Madeness' American Defensive Player of the Week and Temple Athlete of the Week. In the victory at Vandy, Robinson recovered two forced fumbles, one of which was returned 55 yards for a touchdown.

Temple was also named a nominee for the Football Writers Association of America's National Team of the Week award. In their first victory over an SEC team in 75 years, the Owls held Vanderbilt to only 278 yards of offense and forced 7 turnovers. Last year, the Owls only had 13 turnovers the entire season.

The Owls take on future American Athletic Conference member Navy (0-1) on Saturday, September 6. The game kicks off at 1 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN3. Those in the Philadelphia area can listen to the game on 97.5 FM The Phanatic with Harry Donahue (play-by-play), Paul Palmer (analyst) and Harry Mayes (sidelines).
