Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated With a 3-0 Victory over Rider

9.5.14 | Women's Soccer

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Temple women's soccer defeated Rider 3-0 on the road at Ben Cohen Field on Friday night.  The Owls continued their hot streak, and improved to 4-0 while Rider dropped to 2-2. The win ties the all-time best start in program history at 4-0; however the Owls will not look too far ahead.

"The wins, hot streak and goals are a bonus, but we need to focus for conference play," said head coach Seamus O'Connor. "We need to use this to build for the conference and learn from last year." The Owls  had a similar start to their previous season, but struggled once conference started.

The Owls took off in the second half. Temple  broke a scoreless tie with an upper 90 shot from twenty-five yards out by Paula Jurewicz 5:31 into the second half (unassisted), and  Kelly Farrell came back three minutes later and scored on a chip shot over the head of Rider s' goalkeeper (assisted by Alyssa Kirk). Temple again found the net at the 88th minute mark by the heel of Elaine Byerley (assisted by Shannon Senour) to seal the victory.

"It was a 100% total team effort," said head coach Seamus O'Connor.  "The defense let the attack step forward and there was production all over the field."

The Owls' weekend will continue with a game Sunday at Drexel. The game is of much significance with Drexel being a city rival. The game will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Vidas Field.

The Owls hold a 7-5-1 all-time record against the Dragons.  The last matchup was on Sept. 14, 2012 at Ambler Sports Complex, which resulted in a 1-0 victory for Drexel. Temple's last victory against Drexel was a 2-1 victory on Sept. 7, 2007.
