Men's Crew Races at the Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple men's crew team raced at the Navy Day Regatta on Saturday on the Schuylkill River. The Owls recorded a pair of top-five finishes, with many of the boats improving significantly on their finish from last season's event.Â
"Overall it was a good day for where we want to be this time of year," said assistant coach Brian Perkins. "We still have a lot of work to do but this is a good jumping off point."
Temple's varsity eight and varsity four boats each notched fourth place finishes. In the varsity eight race, the Owls clocked in at 12:28.51, placing fourth in a stacked 25-boat field. The fourth place finish this season was a seven-spot improvement over last season.Â
The Owls' varsity four also improved on last season's placement, jumping from eighth place a year ago to fourth place today. Temple finished in a time of 14:44.76 in the 12-boat field.Â
In JV racing, Temple entered two boats in the 12-crew field, taking sixth and ninth place. The "A" boat finished in 13:08.67 to rank sixth, while the "B" boat finished in 13:34.32, ranking ninth.Â
Rounding out today's racing, the freshman eight boat finished eighth overall in a 13-boat race. The Owls recorded a time of 13:43.49.Â
Temple returns to action on October 23, competing in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.Â
