Women's Soccer Faces Off Against East Carolina

PHILADELPHIA – After a thrilling 2-1 win over American Athletic Conference foe Cincinnati on Thursday, Temple women's soccer will face East Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
The Owls picked up their first conference win of the season when they took down the conference-leading Bearcats on Thursday afternoon.
After being down 1-0 after the first half, sophomore Elana Falcone picked up her fifth goal of the season after she was able to head the ball into the net in the 56th minute.
Later in the 70th minute, redshirt-junior?Gina DiTaranto knocked in the game-winning goal on a rebound from a blocked shot. This was DiTaranto's second goal of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Nash recorded four saves on the game, giving her a total of 51 on the season. Nash also has a 0.87 goals against average, allowing only 9 goals to be scored against her.
With only 12 goals scored against them this year, the Owls are on track to allow the least amount of goals scored in a season (record is 22 set back in 1995).
Temple currently leads the conference in goals for (33), score average (2.357) and points (84).
ABOUT EAST CAROLINA…
East Carolina moved to 2-3-0 in conference play after dropping back-to-back matches to #24 USF, 2-1 on October 4 and #18 UConn, 3-0 on Thursday.
The Pirates two conferences victories have come in the form of a 2-1 at Houston and a 1-0 home victory over UCF, where senior Kendall Frey knocked in the game-winner with 30 seconds left in regulation.
Junior Lana Spitler ranks third in the American Athletic Conference in shots (55) and shots per game (3.67).
Redshirt-senior goalkeeper Saundra Baron sits at first in the conference with seven shutouts on the season and third in the conference ranking with 49 saves.
SERIES HISTORY…
Temple and East Carolina will meet for just the second time in either program's history. Last season, the Pirates shut-out the Owls, 2-0 with two goals by Spitler in the eight and 87the minutes.
UP NEXT…
Temple will head down to Tulsa for one of its final road games of the season on October 15. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. at Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.
