10.21.15 | Football

PHILADELPHIA - Hershey Walton, defensive lineman for the #22/24 Temple Owls, has been named to the Danny Wuerffel Trophy watch list.

Walton's career at Temple has been a remarkable journey for the Reading native, and exemplifies the potential of a committed student-athlete. He has played every game in his career (41) for the Owls and accumulated his 100th career tackle against UCF this past week. Walton has already completed his undergraduate degree in marketing and is working on his masters. Walton is a strong figure in the community and volunteers his time to many causes.

The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach.  Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel, from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

Walton and the Owls next head into a primetime divisional match-up against East Carolina. Gametime is 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2.
