11.18.15 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – With two home games remaining, the Temple Owls are in position to win their way to a division title and the American Athletic Conference's inaugural championship game. In this historic season, the Owls have already set impressive records with attendance at Lincoln Financial Field and viewership of their games.
As the American reported today, the member schools have enjoyed a ten-percent increase in attendance from 2014. The two biggest crowds of the season were Temple's home games against Notre Dame (a school-record 69,280) and Penn State (69,176). This marked the first time Temple sold out two home games since moving to South Philadelphia full-time in 1976. The Owls are one of three member schools to average 40,000 or more this season in attendance. Compared to 2014, the average home attendance for the Owls has more than doubled, leaping from 23,792 to a conference-high 51,251.
The primetime match-up against Notre Dame also brought a record television audience. The ABC broadcast on Halloween averaged almost six million viewers, despite going up against Game 4 of the World Series on FOX. The 17.6 Philadelphia area rating was a record audience for any college football game viewed in the area. Temple's season opener against Penn State and win at SMU, also boasted over a million viewers.
Temple returns to Lincoln Financial Field this Saturday for a conference showdown with #21 Memphis. Kickoff is at noon and the game will air on ESPNU. For tickets and more information, go to owlstix.com
