Blanca Fernandez Places 29th at NCAA Championships to Earn All-America Honors
11.21.15 | Women's Cross Country
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The first-ever All-American for Temple women's cross country is Blanca Fernandez, who completed her 2015 season with a 29th-place finish in 20:20.7 at the NCAA Division I Championships on Saturday. In a field of 254, the top 40 runners were awarded All-America by the USTFCCCA.
Fernandez came into Saturday's race as the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Champion, and was undefeated in all six races she had competed in. While she wasn't able to catch up to the lead pack in the championship race, Fernandez kept herself within striking distance.
Having made history for the women's cross country team, Fernandez will look to improve upon an already-impressive performance in indoor and outdoor track last year. She earned All-America Second Team honors both seasons, becoming the Owls' first female representative at the NCAA Championships in 28 years.
