Temple Jumps Back Into the Top 25

PHILADELPHIA – The college football polls were announced this afternoon and the 9-2 Temple Owls jumped back into both the Associated Press (AP) Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll. Temple finds itself 25th in the AP rankings and 24th in the Coaches Poll.
This marks the fifth week in the Top 25 for Temple, already a school record for one season. The Owls were first ranked at 6-0 and stayed in the polls for four weeks before a loss at USF knocked them out for one week. A 31-12 victory yesterday over #21 Memphis put Temple back in the Top 25.
Temple, currently first in the East Division of the American Athletic Conference, joins West Division co-leaders - Houston and Navy - in the rankings. Houston will host Navy this Friday. Temple will host UConn on Saturday night at Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
Temple awaits Tuesday's announcement of the College Football Playoff (CFP) Polls.
Beginning in 2014, the top four teams in the CFP rankings compete in a bracket style format for a chance to play for the national championship. This year's semifinals (the Capital One Orange Bowl and the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic) are on New Year's Eve, with the winners meeting in the College Football Playoff Championship. The 2016 CFP National Championship is slated for Jan. 11 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
In addition to determining the semifinal bowls, the selection committee is responsible for seeding teams in the New Year's Six bowls. After the top four teams are assigned to the semifinal sites, the committee fills the remaining bowl slots according to the CFP rankings and bowl agreements between conferences.
A talented group of high-integrity individuals with experience as coaches, student-athletes, college administrators and journalists, along with sitting athletics directors, comprise the selection committee. Members of the committee are: Jeff Long (chair), Barry Alvarez, Mike Gould, Kirby Hocutt, Tom Jernstedt, Bobby Johnson, Tom Osborne, Dan Radakovich, Condoleezza Rice, Mike Tranghese, Steve Wieberg and Tyrone Willingham.
