11.24.15 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – Temple, at #25, jumped back into the 2015 College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings it was announced Tuesday on ESPN's live CFP rankings show. After a 31-12 win over #21 Memphis and a move back into the rankings in both the Associated Press (25) and Amway Coaches Polls (24), Temple finds itself in the CFP rankings once again.
One other American Athletic Conference team, Navy (15) – who will battle Houston for first in the West Division this Friday - joins Temple in the Top 25.
Beginning in 2014, the top four teams in the CFP rankings compete in a bracket style format for a chance to play for the national championship. This year's semifinals (the Capital One Orange Bowl and the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic) are on New Year's Eve, with the winners meeting in the College Football Playoff Championship. The 2016 CFP National Championship is slated for Jan. 11 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
In addition to determining the semifinal bowls, the selection committee is responsible for seeding teams in the New Year's Six bowls. After the top four teams are assigned to the semifinal sites, the committee fills the remaining bowl slots according to the CFP rankings and bowl agreements between conferences.
A talented group of high-integrity individuals with experience as coaches, student-athletes, college administrators and journalists, along with sitting athletics directors, comprise the selection committee. Members of the committee are: Jeff Long (chair), Barry Alvarez, Mike Gould, Kirby Hocutt, Tom Jernstedt, Bobby Johnson, Tom Osborne, Dan Radakovich, Condoleezza Rice, Mike Tranghese, Steve Wieberg and Tyrone Willingham.
The selection committee will prepare five more rankings this season, including the final set on Selection Day, Sunday, December 6.
