News & Notes Following Temple's 27-3 win vs. UConn

Temple is now 10-2 tying the 1979 unit for the most wins  in school history.

With an even record of 18-18 in three seasons, Matt Rhule is averaging 6.0 wins per year topped at Temple only by Steve Addazio (6.5), Henry Miller (6.25) and Wayne Hardin (6.15). With two games to play this season he has the ability to become the winningest coach in school history in terms of wins per season. Only three coaches in school history have gotten to 18 wins faster – Henry Miller (26 games), Glenn "Pop" Warner (29), and Hardin (31).

Temple held an opponent without a TD for the third time this season (Charlotte, Memphis) and the fourth time without an offensive TD (UCF).

Temple's defense has allowed just five TDs in six home games – three against Notre Dame, one each against Penn State and Tulane.

The defense allowed 9 rushing yards – not their best game of the season. They allowed just 8 rushing yards against Tulane. In fact, in five of six home games they limited the opponent to fewer than 77 yards rushing (only #9 Notre Dame rushed for more). The average in those five games was 47.4 rushing yards.

Following a game at USF in which they allowed a number of big plays, the Temple defense allowed just three plays of 20+ yards [one rushing (26), one passing (21) against Memphis; and one passing (25) against UConn].

Temple didn't allow UConn to start with the ball in Temple territory for any of its 11 drives. It was the sixth time this season that Temple did that and are a perfect 6-0 in those games. Incidentally, that was only the first time that happened at home.

Senior LB Tyler Matakevich once again led the Owls in tackles - his 11 stops were his fifth double-digit output of the season. He is the only player in FBS to lead his team in tackles in every game this season. He now has 118 for the season giving him four seasons of 100+ tackles – he joined just six other players in college football history tom accomplish that feat – Rick Razzano, Virginia Tech (1974-77); Carl McGee, Duke (1975-78); Dan Bass, Michigan State (1976-79); Stephen Boyd, Boston College (1991-94); Dana Howard, Illinois (1991-94); and Marcus McGraw, Houston (2008-11).

Junior RB Jahad Thomas was 20-119-2TDs rushing. He scored at least one rushing TD in 11 of 12 games, has 17 rushing TDs on the season and 19 overall this year. Only Bernard Pierce with 27 TDs in 2011 had more has an Owl. The 119 yards were his fifth 100+ rushing game of the season.

Junior QB P.J. Walker finished the day with 160 yards on 19-29 passing and 1 TD with no interceptions. He has now thrown a TD pass in 11 straight games. This season he has thrown for 2,449 yards and 18 TDs with just 6 INTs. The 2,449 yards is the second best in the TU record books behind Henry Burris' 2,716 set in 1994.

Senior WR Brandon Shippen recorded a career-high 4 receptions.

Redshirt senior Robby Anderson led the Owls with 6 catches for 42 yards. He now has 52 catches on the season earning him fourth place on the TU single-season reception list.
