Men's Soccer Falls to UConn 4-0 in 2015 Season Finale

STORRS, Conn. – Temple men's soccer completed its 2015 season on Saturday night, falling 4-0 to UConn in the American Athletic Conference quarterfinals. The Owls posted five total shots but were unable to find the back of the net against the Huskies.
Simen Olafsen got on the board first for the Huskies, heading in UConn's first goal off a corner kick in the 34th minute. The first half ended with UConn up by a single goal.
Three Owls posted strong scoring chances, with Jorge Gomez Sanchez, Jared Martinelli and Joonas Jokinen taking shots on goal in hopes of finding an equalizer.
Huskies' freshman Abdou Thiam scored two goals in the second half to improve UConn's lead to 3-0 by the 63rd minute of play. In the 84th minute, DeAndrae Brown knocked in his first goal of the season to make the final score 4-0.
Carlos Moros Gracia had the best scoring chance of the second half, taking a shot from outside the top of the box that was saved by Huskies' goalkeeper Scott Levene.
Alex Cagle faced a strong UConn offense, making three saves despite allowing four goals.
The Owls finish their 2015 tenure with a winning 10-7-2 overall record and 97 total points. Gomez Sanchez logged 13 goals and earned a spot in the Temple record books in his first season with the Owls. He is currently tied for fifth for most goals scored in a single season and tied for sixth in single-season points with 31.
Martinelli played his final game as an Owl and finishes his career ranked second in the Temple record books in total assists with 22 in the past four seasons.
