Women's Tennis Flies Past Dayton, 5-1

DAYTON, Ohio – The women's tennis team continued to dominate as they defeated Dayton, 5-2 on Friday, February 20. The team is now 4-2 in road contests.
In doubles play, the Owls were quick to wrap up the point, as Monet Stuckey-Willis and Anais Nussaume defeated Dayton's Carly Peck and Katie Shepard, 6-0 at the second flight, while Alina Abdurakhimova and Yana Khon took the first flight and the point against Mandy Marchant and Marlys Bridgham, 6-3.
Singles was once again all Owls, as Khon brought the score to 2-0 after she defeated Alex Townsend at the second flight, 6-1, 6-1. Dayton picked up their only point of the game when Jackie Kawamoto defeated Nussaume, 6-1, 6-2 at the fourth flight.
Stuckey-Willis gave Temple an extended 3-1 lead after winning a 6-2, 6-1 fifth flight against Marchant. Dina Karina clinched the winning point at the third flight, defeating Peck, 6-3, 6-1 at the third flight. Abdurakhimova extended her straight-set victory streak to eight with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the first flight over Bridgham.
The Owls (8-2) will stay in the state of Ohio, as they travel to face American Athletic Conference rival Cincinnati tomorrow at noon.
