Temple Lacrosse Runs Away From Lafayette, 17-7

PHILADELPHIA - With a 10-0 run that extended from the first half to the second, Temple lacrosse pulled well ahead of visiting Lafayette (1-4) and eventually beat the Leopards 17-7 on Saturday afternoon. The Owls (4-1) dominated on draw controls in the win, finishing with a 19-7 advantage.
Nicole Tiernan recorded a hat trick for the second straight game to lead Temple, with her three goals leading a group of five Owls who scored multiple goals in the contest. Her twin sister Megan Tiernan scored twice while also leading Temple with six draw controls.
Macie Hauck, Avery Longstaff and Kathryn Skahan all scored two goals apiece, while six others also scored a goal for Temple. Rachel Schwaab led the Owls with two assists.
Temple found itself down 4-2 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first half, leading head coach Bonnie Rosen to call timeout. Out of the timeout, Megan Tiernan controlled the draw and went straight down to score the first goal of what became a 10-0 run.
With 4:39 left in the first half, Nicole Tiernan tied the game at 4-4, and Longstaff got an assist from Schwaab for a 5-4 lead just 29 seconds later. Temple scored twice more in the half with goals from Nicole Barretta and Morgan Glassford (from Krissy Gallivan) to take a 7-4 lead at the break.
Skahan, Hauck, Rachel Barile, Longstaff and Megan Tiernan all scored in the first eight minutes of the second half, with the first and last of those coming on free position opportunities. The final goal of the run put Temple ahead 12-4, and the Owls outscored Lafayette 5-3 the rest of the way.
Goalkeeper Jaqi Kakalecik made five saves in 53 minutes of action. The Owls took 36 shots to Lafayette's 17, and Lafayette keeper Anna Raymond made nine saves for the Leopards.
Temple will play its next four games on the road, beginning with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Wagner on Wednesday, March 4.
