Men's Basketball Travels to USF for Wednesday Showdown with Bulls
2.3.15 | Men's Basketball
TAMPA, Fla. - Riding a three-game win streak the Temple men's basketball team travels to Florida for the second straight week this time to take on USF Wednesday (6:30 pm/ESPNews/1210 AM WPHT).
The Owls (15-7, 6-3 American) seem to have found their stride on both ends of the court, having won the last three contest by an average of 22.3 points while allowing an average of just 49 points per game. One of those victories came against the Bulls, a 73-48 decision at the Liacouras Center on Jan. 22.
The return of senior guard Will Cummings (13.0 ppg, 4.0 apg) to the starting lineup coincides with the current win streak. The Owls co-captain had missed all or parts of the previous three contests - all losses - with a strained muscle in his lower left leg.
Cummings is one of a trio of guards who are within a single point for the team scoring lead. Junior Quenton DeCosey currently tops the Cherry and White with a 13.5 scoring average while senior Jesse Morgan averages 12.8 ppg.
Junior forward Jaylen Bond (8.0 ppg, 8.1 rpg) continues to lead the conference in rebounding while junior center Devontae Watson (2.2 ppg) rounds out the starting five.
Sophomore guard Josh Brown (6.2 ppg) leads a solid contingent of five reserves that includes reigning American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week Obi Enechionyia (4.8 ppg, 28 blocks).
USF (7-15, 1-8 American) has lost 14 of its last 16 games including the last seven straight. The Bulls have suffered two overtime losses in that stretch, including a 78-71 OT loss at Tulsa on Jan. 31.
Senior guard Corey Allen, Jr., leads the team with 15.4 points per game, while junior guard Anthony Collins is tops on the squad and second in the conference with 5.3 assists per game. Sophomore forward Chris Perry leads the team on the glass with 7.1 rpg and is also averaging at 10.8 ppg.
