Nicole Tiernan and Jaqi Kakalecik Earn BIG EAST Lacrosse Weekly Honors

NEW YORK - Temple's Nicole Tiernan and Jaqi Kakalecik have earned two of the four BIG EAST Conference weekly awards for lacrosse, with Tiernan taking Midfielder of the Week honors and Kakalecik earning Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Owls, at 6-1 overall, are coming off a pair of close wins at Wagner and Iona last week.
Tiernan scored seven goals in a 2-0 week for Temple including a career-high five goals in a 10-9 win at Wagner on March 4. That performance was her third consecutive hat trick, and she has now scored multiple goals in five of Temple's seven games. For the week she also totaled six draw controls, eight ground balls and six caused turnovers. Tiernan leads the Owls this season with 17 goals, 16 draw controls and 13 caused turnovers.
Kakalecik recorded both wins in goal for the Owls last week, and made a career-tying 10 saves in the win at Iona. She made seven saves in Temple's narrow win at Wagner, including a big one with just over a minute remaining to preserve the lead. Kakalecik has been the goalkeeper of record for every game this season, helping the Owls to their best start in 17 years.
