WINTER PARK, Fla. – The women's tennis team capped off a weekend in Florida with a 7-0 sweep of Rollins College on Sunday.
"I was really happy the way the girls rebounded from their loss against UCF yesterday, said head coach Steve Mauro. "The girls were really focused and we played a top 10 ranked team in Division II, so they've always had a strong program, and we beat them pretty convincingly today."
Doubles was a sweep for the Owls, as Alina Abdurakhimova and Dina Karina took a 6-3 win at the first flight over Carli Davis and Johanna Olsson. Anais Nussaume and Minami Okajima wrapped up the doubles point at the second flight with a 6-4 win over Taylor Brown and Emma Wookey.
The Owls then dominated the singles competition, winning all of their flights in straight-set victories. Yana Khon shut out Olsson at the second flight, taking both sets 6-0, 6-0. Rebecca Breland was able to take a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Wookey at the fourth flight, while Mariana Bedon handled Brown 6-1, 6-2 at the third flight. Monet Stuckey-Willis wrapped up play at the first flight with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Davis.
Mauro is happy that the team has been able to adjust to the ever-changing climates they play in and still pick up the victory.
"It was a good win for the girls, especially playing in different weather than we're accustomed to in Philadelphia."
The Owls (12-5, 0-3 The American) will open up play on North Broad against Rider on March 27 at 3 p.m.
