GREENVILLE, N.C. - Will Cummings scored 16 points, grabbed seven boards, dished six assists and recorded three steals in leading Temple men's basketball to a 70-56 road win at East Carolina on Thursday night. The Owls (21-9, 12-5) led by eight at halftime and held off the Pirates (13-17, 6-11) throughout the second half with a strong defensive effort.

Quenton DeCosey and Josh Brown added 11 points apiece for Temple, with DeCosey grabbing a game-high eight rebounds and Brown hitting 3-of-6 from long range. All 10 players who saw action for the Owls scored in the win.

The Pirates jumped out to an early 11-3 lead in the first three minutes after making all three of their attempts from long range, but it was the Owls who would go on to dominate from behind the arc for most of the half. ECU hit its fourth and final trey at 15:09 to make it a 14-7 lead, but Temple answered with a 9-2 run capped by a Cummings dunk to tie the game at 16-16.

Over a four and a half minute stretch near the midway point of the half, the Owls scored just three free throws but held ECU to just five points including three at the line. Devin Coleman ended the field goal drought with his first of two three-pointers at 8:28, starting what became a 16-4 run that put the Owls up by six, 33-27 near the four-minute mark.

ECU closed the gap to two points at 2:08, but Temple scored the final six points of the half to take its largest lead of eight into the break, 41-33.

Cummings led all players at halftime with nine points, five assists and two steals. All 10 players who saw action in the first half for Temple scored at least two points as the Owls shot close to 52 percent (15-of-29) from the field and nearly 44 percent from three-point range (7-of-16).

ECU's Terry Whisnant hit an early second-half three-pointer for the Pirates, but it was followed by a 9-2 run for the Owls that gave them a 12-point, 50-38 lead at 16:50.

Twice ECU was able to get within five, but Temple allowed the Pirates to get no closer with a second-half defensive effort that forced seven turnovers. Over the final five minutes Temple held ECU scoreless until the final seconds. The Owls got five points from Brown in an 8-0 run during that stretch to put the game away.

Temple will honor its seniors prior to its final home game and final regular season game on Saturday, March 7 against UConn at 2:00 p.m. (ESPN2/1210 AM WPHT).
